IRC Native Hockey Tournament Set To Celebrate 30 Years

When the IRC Native Hockey Tournament first drops the puck on February 15, 2018, it will do so celebrating its 30th anniversary.

First organized in 1989, the tournament has grown into a staple event for players and fans throughout the region, territory, and beyond. Everyone loves to cheer for their favourite players and teams at this family-friendly community event!

This year, the IRC Native Hockey Tournament will take place from February 15 to February 18, 2018 at the Midnight Sun Recreation Complex in Inuvik.

Teams will compete in one of three divisions. Entry fees are as follows:

  • A Division: $1000
  • B Division: $700
  • C Division: $500

To help celebrate the anniversary, there will be commemorative sweaters, hats, and pucks containing the distinctive "30 years" logo available for purchase. As well, there will be other special events, contests, and 50/50 draws.

Inuvialuit Regional Corporation will also be hosting the IRC Cup Cultural Weekend to accompany the events taking place on the ice.

Did you know? The first team to win the "A" division at the IRC Native Hockey Tournament was the Mackenzie Bandits in 1989.
